Buyers and advertisers
The biggest group of working residents is in construction, 130,524 people or 11.6%, followed by health care with 125,891 (11.2%) and retail with 114,696 (10.2%). Those payrolls generate searches for tools, repairs, clinics and meals, and each category has its own auction. A roofing or remodeling firm competes with others in a county where residential remodelers grew 56.4% and roofing contractors 44.6%, so narrow service-and-district ad groups matter more than broad ones.
The professional categories are the most crowded. Harris County counts 3,160 law offices (about 2.27 times the typical level), 3,716 physicians' offices (1.91 times), 2,279 dentists (1.7 times) and 1,720 real estate agents, whose count grew 35.6%. Those are county figures, not the city's own, but they mean that general terms will be contested all day. Advertisers in these fields do better with specific services, clear locations and strict negative lists than with a general budget.
Institutions create micro-markets. The Texas Medical Center brings patients and visiting families, the University of Houston has nearly 44,000 students on 667 acres, and the Port of Houston and the Energy Corridor create their own weekday demand for meals, supplies and repairs. Suppliers should name the corridor and the schedule in the ad and send clicks to a page built for that district, not a general home page. Houston Methodist, MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Baylor College of Medicine sit in the medical district, Rice University sits nearby, ExxonMobil is among the energy names in the area and the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center adds its own workforce, so each has searches that look different.

What people do for work affects when they search and what they can pay for. The six biggest sectors for employed Houston residents are listed below.

Reading the audience
Renting changes urgency. With 58% of households renting against 38% in the typical Texas city, many searches are for locksmiths, movers, cleaners and repair crews who must arrive quickly. Ads that state a response window and show a phone number do better than ads that sell a brand. Call extensions, call tracking and routing to a live person are the basics for these categories. A line stating how soon someone can arrive often decides which ad gets the click.
Language is a major lever. About 38.2% of residents speak Spanish at home (typical: 17.9%) and 28.9% were born abroad (typical: 12%). A Spanish ad group for the main service, written in plain words and paired with a Spanish landing page, can reach households that English-only advertisers skip. We compare its calls with the English group each month and widen only when results justify it.
Income spans a wide range. The median household earns $60,440 against $76,686 in the typical city, a median home is valued at $235,000 and 19.6% of residents live below the poverty line, while 35.2% of adults hold a bachelor's degree. Ads must therefore speak to both price-sensitive and well-off buyers. Listing what a visit includes and where the crew works helps both groups decide.
The map is huge. With 3,585 residents per square mile across a city of 2,296,253, a radius that works in one district wastes budget in another. We use tight radii, exclude districts outside the service area and keep separate budgets for each, so a plumber near Midtown does not pay for clicks from districts it never serves.

With 58% of households renting, ads for locksmiths, movers and cleaners should show a response window and a tap-to-call button. We schedule call forwarding around those hours so a caller reaches a person.
Fewer wasted clicks
In categories as busy as law and medicine, which are crowded across Harris County, many clicks come from people seeking jobs, free advice or a different service. We review the search-term report each month and block phrases that burned budget without producing calls.
